Module T - Topography
It is the module dedicated to the processing, representation and graphical layout of any type of survey.
- georeference raster cartography, aerial and satellite images, cadastral maps
- download data from all instruments
- manage field data allowing you to merge surveys and manage readings, stations and GPS
- manage the survey field book completely, coordinating it with the survey representation
- generate point monographs
And regarding Land Cadastre procedures:
- read and create .DAT files for PREGEO
- facilitate the creation of the autoallestito and the update proposal
- easily generate parcel divisions
- manage cadastral mutual distances
The software provides advanced features for survey calculations. For example, automatic recognition of forward and backward intersections, ground openings and closures, layer calculations, empirical and least-squares adjustments, roto-translations with or without scale variation, integrated calculations with GPS baselines, network adjustments, and control of projections on the local sphere.
It allows you to calculate and manage trigonometric and geometric leveling with empirical and least-squares calculations.
Your control over surveys is complete because the software provides reports that indicate every single step it performs.
Data coming from GPS can be immediately used in survey processing and displayed in real time. And coordinate transformation? It is easy to manage because you can define the reference cartographic and geoid systems and let the software perform the reference system transformation while keeping all parameters under control.
Do you need to create a local system? With the same interface you can define your reference systems and transform coordinates whenever needed.
- automatic association of a symbol or figure to the point code
- automatic drawing of surveyed discontinuities
- optimized placement of texts to avoid overlaps in the survey drawing
- automatic drawing of the cartographic grid
Module M - Models
It is the module for creating the digital terrain model, using triangles, contour lines or a regular grid, which is necessary for calculating profiles and sections for earthworks quantity take-offs.
- manage spot height plans
- create terrain models starting from tachymetric surveys or 3D cartography
- calculate sections and profiles
- calculate cut and fill volumes using the adjusted and averaged section methods
- perform boolean operations on digital models
- create virtual models to publish on the internet
- calculate the surface area of 3D models
- use the functionality for automatic recalculation of profiles and sections
To ensure that the existing terrain model is a faithful representation, define breaklines such as walls, sidewalks, slopes, etc.: the software will take them into account during modeling.
Use the LandXML data exchange format. What is LandXML?
And create custom reports, summaries of regulatory checks or staking files using dedicated procedures.
If you need to manage more than two models in the same DWG, define more than one alignment or calculate more than 10 quantity items in the sections, switch to the Quarries and Landfills solution of CIVIL Design: if you are already a CAD&Pillar customer, you will only pay the price difference so your previous investment is always recognized.
Module S - Roads
This module provides everything needed to design and compute a road. It verifies in real time the requirements of Ministerial Decree 5/11/2001. It saves time and users can benefit greatly from the automatic recalculation of profiles, sections and regulatory checks following modifications made to the alignment.
The Roads module allows you to:
- create an alignment with any composition such as tangents, clothoids, parabolas, arcs, etc.
- calculate superelevations and widenings
- calculate sections and profiles
- automatically insert parametric design sections
- calculate earthwork quantities
- automatically create the design plan view
- obtain a 3D model of the designed road
- produce driving simulation videos
- check clearances in tunnels
- manage aqueduct and sewer profiles
- also manage railway alignments
They are not a problem, because the project is dynamic and any changes, even at an advanced stage, trigger automatic updates of plan views, models and sections. You can save time and evaluate different design alternatives with minimal effort.
The procedures for performing regulatory checks in road design are well established: alignment composition criteria, speed diagrams and visibility checks are carried out quickly and accurately.
The available options allow extensive customization of the parameters used for the checks, such as friction coefficients, design speed, obstacle height and many others.
If you need to design road intersections or larger projects that require more than one alignment, switch to the Roads and Railways solution of CIVIL Design: if you are already a customer, you will only pay the price difference so your previous investment is always recognized.
Module C - Quarries
This module allows you to design and manage 3D digital models, typically quarries and landfills. It calculates volumes using the prismoid method and allows you to define levelling.
The module allows you to generate design slopes by choosing the inclination, the toe and crest elevations, and inserting benches.
The most accurate method for evaluating volumes defined between different models is the prismoid method, which is the distinctive feature of this module: customizable reports and graphical representations of the entities involved are provided by the software with minimal effort.
Calculate the total 3D surface area of the triangles of a 3D model, useful for computing area-based items such as grassing, shotcrete, etc.
Levelling is a typical task: you can define the plane using different input data such as the coordinates of 3 points, 2 points and a direction, 1 point and the line of maximum slope, etc. Then the volume between this design surface and the existing terrain model is calculated, producing the desired reports or graphical representations.
It is often necessary to calculate the balancing plane, that is the ideal plane that equalizes cut and fill volumes with respect to a given terrain model.
Intersections between models are automatically identified and can be used for different purposes.
With digital triangulated models available, it is possible to perform several analyses, usually to produce thematic maps:
- altimetric analysis, which highlights triangles based on the elevation of their centroid and is useful for identifying elevation differences
- slope analysis, which colors them according to slope ranges, useful for evaluating different design solutions
- aspect analysis, which highlights the variation in triangle slope relative to a given direction, for example to optimize land arrangement for agricultural crops
If you need to manage more than two models in the same DWG, define more than one alignment or calculate more than 10 quantity items in sections, switch to the Quarries and Landfills solution of CIVIL Design: if you are already a CAD&Pillar customer, you will only pay the price difference so your previous investment is always recognized.
Module R - Raster
It is the module for enhancing the management of raster images. In infrastructure projects it is always necessary to use raster cartography such as Regional Technical Maps, orthophotos, satellite images or cadastral maps. In the architectural field it is often very useful to survey buildings using perspective rectification of photographs in order to obtain metric information.
This function allows building façades to be automatically reconstructed in CAD and also enables 3D models to be textured with the captured images. The resolution is preserved to avoid losing details.
With this transformation it is possible to match two maps that are not perfectly overlapping, such as a cadastral map with one derived from aerial photogrammetry.
It allows merging different aerial and terrestrial images. Automatic clipping of the image on the minimum convex polygon containing the points used for affine or perspective transformation is available.
With this module, CAD&Pillar allows you to manage any image format!
Insert maps and correct errors introduced by scanning while bringing them to real coordinates? This can be done with orthophotos, Regional Technical Maps or cadastral maps!
- georeference also the vector entities that compose standard projects and drawings
- overlay CAD projects, therefore vector drawings, on aerial photographs and also create a final merged image
This function allows a map to be superimposed onto a survey or vice versa. Two options are available, with or without scale variation. Automatic procedures are available to read parameters from .TFW, .COO, .RCW files...
Delete or color areas inside polylines or circles and move or delete lines, points, arcs, circles, 2D/3D polylines, 3DFace and splines on the image.
- import orthophotos in .ASC format
- manage RGB, indexed, black and white and grayscale images
- project images onto triangulated models
- create the TFW georeferencing file starting from the inserted image

The software is used every day by thousands of technicians working in the field, in particular surveyors, design firms, and contractors.
The software comes with online help and an integrated video course that corresponds to a basic course delivered by our technicians.
An average AutoCAD user with the necessary technical skills can start being operational right away because the approach is the same as drawing in AutoCAD. In this way, the time (and costs) related to the learning period are minimized. For advanced needs, courses of varying duration are available at our premises or at the customer’s site. For more information, please contact our sales department.
The entire project (of any size) is saved in a single DWG without having to rely on external databases. This makes it possible to always keep project data aligned and under control. By delivering the DWG to third parties, you can be sure you have provided everything needed. With the latest versions of the DWG extension, file sizes have been significantly reduced, improving lightness and ease of sharing.
Yes, because the program creates only CAD entities without the need for special files. Only for the correct display of topographic points, a shape file (CD-PUNTO.shx) is provided, to be copied into the AutoCAD fonts folder on the recipient’s computer. You can edit or integrate the projects created with the program using any AutoCAD.
CAD&PILLAR allows you to automatically build the 3D model of the linear work with a dedicated command. You can then integrate or modify this linear 3Dface model both with other commands and with AutoCAD commands. Additional commands have been developed to create presentations and videos.
An alignment created with CAD&PILLAR is a 2D polyline drawn at elevation zero in AutoCAD model space. The polyline retains all the characteristics of any AutoCAD polyline, to which the program implicitly associates design data such as chainages, rotations, etc.
An alignment is generated starting from the “basic elements”, i.e., AutoCAD line, arc and circle entities, and from the blocks generated by the program for building transition curves (parabolas and clothoids, including multi-parameter, inflections and continuity, polycentric curves, spirals...). The program setup allows you to proceed with the plan layout phase both by polygonal and by circles.
There are specific commands for editing alignments, but starting from version 4 it will be possible to edit the alignment dynamically both graphically and by working on a table that lists the alignment elements.
The program is single-axis. CIVIL Design, on the other hand, is available in both single-axis and multi-axis versions.
The program allows you to perform all checks for the design of extra-urban roads required by Ministerial Decree 5/11/2001. In particular, it performs alignment composition checks, speed diagram checks, and two-dimensional visibility checks. The program allows you to generate reports and the required drawings/documents.
A design cross-section in CAD&PILLAR is created by simply drawing in AutoCAD. In fact, you just need to draw polylines to represent the current section and the marginal elements (ditches, gutters, walls...), and the program will insert them into the design cross-sections based on the specified conditions. It is possible to define parametric sections to create complex design cross-sections that are inserted based on certain conditions.
10 volume items and 2 area-type items.
With CAD&PILLAR version 3, dynamic sections were introduced with respect to changes made in plan, profile, or other project elements. For example, already inserted design sections update dynamically if the platform plan has been modified, or if the design profile has been modified, or again if the design section has been modified. This is complemented by the dynamic update of slope/bench elevations.
The program allows you to automatically create quantity cross-sections, the section book, and report files of the computed quantities.
The program allows you to create digital models based on contour lines, triangles, or a regular grid. You can then extract a longitudinal profile of an alignment and place it in a title block; more generally, you can extract profiles along any polyline.
It is possible to manage two profiles for each alignment (existing ground and design).
The program allows you to size vertical curves of road profiles while complying with the visibility checks required by regulations.
The program allows you to process and manage tacheometric surveys of any size, cadastral surveys, GPS, and levelling.
Files can be downloaded from the instrument to the PC with our freeware Transfer software (available in this website’s download area). CAD&PILLAR allows you to import and process these files. Trimble-Geotronics, Leica, Nikon, Sokkia, Pentax instruments are supported, as well as Trimble DINI levels.
Processed surveys are represented as 3D spot-level plans in AutoCAD: points are special blocks that can be managed with dedicated commands designed to ensure maximum flexibility in annotation/styling.
CAD&PILLAR allows you to process a survey using different adjustment methods: constrained least squares, empirical, with roto-translation, or no adjustment. Among the many calculation options, we mention the possibility to perform checks on the defined traverses.
The T - Topography module of CAD&PILLAR is compatible with Pregeo 10 and earlier versions.
CAD&Pillar is divided into 5 modules (T - Topography; M - Contours and Volumes; S - Roads; C - Quarries; R - Raster). The user can choose which modules to purchase and how to combine them. There are special commercial offers that propose multiple modules at a decidedly advantageous price. For a description of the modules, use the side menu.
The product is offered through commercial Solutions that represent groupings of commands tailored to different technical needs. The Solutions are designed to provide the most suitable answer for different application areas. For example, there is the Topography Solution, which provides all the commands needed for processing and styling topographic surveys of any kind; or the QUICK Roads Solution, created for single-axis road design, while for more specific needs the Roads and Railways Solution has been tailored with additional functions and the possibility of multi-axis management. The description of the solutions is shown in the Products section on the side.
CAD&PILLAR can be considered a light version of CIVIL Design for more limited design needs, particularly suitable for topographic (including cadastral) work, the construction site environment, or small to medium design firms.
First of all, a distinction must be made between Service Packs and new Releases. The former are updates that can be downloaded for free from this website’s download area and include corrective patches and small improvements to existing commands, while upgrading to new releases is paid and includes new features and the development of existing commands.
